“Gumawa kami ng sarili.”

So we made our own.

Kiln began at a church in the Philippines, with a PC that kept dying. ProPresenter was getting harder to keep running on it, and another seat wasn’t in the budget.

So we built a presenter of our own, and it ran a real service the same day: By 7:39 that evening the words were on the screens, on that same tired PC.

Then the media team told us what was missing.

  1. Kiln’s operator window, with the service order, a song’s slides, and the main screen and stage monitor

One window for the whole service

The service across the top, the slides in the middle, and what every screen is showing down the right.

  2. Our live operator said the stream wasn’t full 1080p, and only showed the lyrics.

The stream is the main screen

It’s now an exact copy, background and all, at 1920x1080. OBS or vMix gets what the room sees.

  3. Our operators kept right-clicking slides to change them.

    So right-click works

Edit a slide, change its picture or remove it, with undo.

  4. Every preaching meant uploading pictures and swapping them in by hand.

    Now you drag them in

Start a new deck, add to one, or replace every slide with next week’s set. Slide2 still comes before Slide10.

  5. A stage monitor that dropped used to mean a restart.

    Unplug it. Plug it back.

Its screen comes back by itself, on the current slide.

  6. At zero, should a countdown stop or keep going?

Your choice, even while it runs

Stop at zero or run into overtime, and add or take away minutes on the way.

Have you used ProPresenter before?

It’s the first thing Kiln asks you, and it takes you through the right steps either way.

Your ProPresenter 7 files stay exactly as they are. Kiln only reads them and makes its own copy. From our own library, 1,472 of 1,475 decks came across, with 25 services and 8 stage layouts.

Press Show numbers to tell your screens apart, then run a sample service before Sunday. A short tour points at the real buttons as you go, and you can try each one. Take it again any time from Setup.

Kiln’s tour dims the window and points at the first slide, with a card that says click this slide to put it on screen

The rest of the service

Type jn 3 16. It’s on screen.

King James, Ang Dating Biblia and Ang Salita ng Diyos, full screen or side by side.

Backgrounds, ready behind the words

Keep pictures and video loops in sets, one click from the slides.

Paste the words. Get the slides.

Kiln groups them by verse and chorus. Jump to any group with one letter.

Pre-service loops

Let a deck play by itself. Set any time per slide, and videos play to their end.

Updates wait for you

Kiln tells you when a new version is ready and waits for you. It never restarts by itself.

Questions

Is Kiln an alternative to ProPresenter?
We built it to use in place of ProPresenter at our own church. It covers lyrics, sermon slides, Bible, stage displays, timers and NDI to OBS, and it can import your library. It’s young, and it isn’t made by or connected to Renewed Vision, so please try it in a test service first.
Is Kiln really free?
Yes. It’s free to download and use, at your church or anywhere else. There’s no account and no subscription.
Can it import my ProPresenter library?
Kiln can import a ProPresenter 7 library: songs, services, stage layouts, timers and media bins. It only reads those files and never changes them.
Does it work with OBS and vMix?
Yes. Kiln sends an exact copy of the main screen over NDI at 1920x1080, as livestream-lyrics. In OBS, install an NDI plugin such as DistroAV, then add it as a source.
Does it need the internet during a service?
No account is needed and your library stays on your computer. Kiln goes online to check for updates, and it always asks before it installs one. The stream goes over your local network.
Do I still need song licenses?
Yes. You’re responsible for having the rights to what you show or stream, including song licenses such as CCLI.
Is Kiln open source?
Not yet. The source code isn’t public, but we plan to open source it soon.

Try it before Sunday

Kiln is young, so please run it in a test service before you rely on it. It’s free, with no account and no analytics, and your library stays on your computer.
